ELFAMEDIA ALL Technology
ELFAMEDIA ALL is a fully formulated Defined SFM - Patent Pending Technology
D-SFM 2D & 3D CULTURE for PRIMARY and CELL LINES
ELFAMEDIA ALL, is a fully formulated D-SFM ready to use media that contain ELFAMATRIX, a stable and SOLUBLE EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX which freely bind to cells helping them to attach to each other and to any biocompatible material.
ELFAMATRIX is a proprietary soluble and stable extracellular matrix produced, isolated and purified from the media of a proprietary cell line cultured in APFM (Animal Protein Free Media).
THE CONCEPT. The media should provide everything the cells need to position and organize themselves naturally as they do for example, during wound healing.
Through understanding of cell nutrition, cell development and cellular interactions with the microenvironment,
Elfamed have developed ELFAMEDIA ALL D-SFM a defined serum-free system that potentiates
the growth of mammalian cells in a highly efficient manner, greater than any serum-free systems currently out
on the market, as well as traditional serum-containing systems.
Elfamed technology is based on a normal naturally bioactivated protein.
This protein is vital to cell survival, cell growth and adaptation to the in-vitro environment.
However, it is expressed inconsistently and in low quantities during cell culture process and variability of this protein levels significantly contributes to the inconsistencies found in cell culture.
When maintained at constant levels leads to the purification and amplification of mammalian cells. In some cell lines, this protein promotes cell proliferation even in the absent of growth factors or other proteins.
In research applications, ELFAMEDIA ALL D-SFM offers the well-known key benefits of serum-free media in the form of increased
quality and consistency of cell based assays.
ELFAMEDIA ALL D-SFM supplement can be optimized for most cell lines within ONE week.
Industry and Market Background
The growth in biopharmaceuticals is creating an unprecedented increase in demand for cell culture products.
Traditional cell culture media usually contain serum, which is full of undefined growth promoting factors.
This undefined growth promoting factors, also introduce significant variability from
lot to lot of serum, making it difficult to standardize growth conditions. Because of its undefined composition,
risk of contaminations, cost factor, and also animal welfare considerations concerning the production of sera,
the switch to Serum-Free alternatives is promoted by regulatory authorities, industry and the research
community in general.
At the encouragement of the FDA and the EMEA, serum use in biopharmaceutical manufacturing needs to be removed.
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Cell Culture Practice (GCCP), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) are now established standards. Implementation of Defined Serum-Free Media (D-SFM) is part of the GCCP.
The use of Serum-Free medium is
supplanting traditional cell culture techniques. Therefore, the transition to Serum-Free media is well underway.
This major transition will impact the biopharmaceuticals that are already licensed using serum. Therefore, the next
generation of major biopharmaceuticals will be serum-free.
Today, Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies and the Academic Research community in general are looking for media that are Serum-Free but they want to
grow cells as cost efficiently, and at least the same level as in a serum environment.
Some well known advantages of using Defined-SFM include:
• Defined. To achieve good experimental reproducibility, the composition of the cell culture medium is essential.
• Consistent performance.
• Easier purification and downstream processing.
• Precise evaluations of cellular function.
• Better control(s) over physiological responsiveness.
• Enhanced detection of cellular mediators.
ELFAMEDIA ALL D-SFM reproducible and scalable.
